Did you know you can earn up to one credit for volunteering in your community while in high school?! 55 hours = 1/2 credit, and 110 hours = 1 credit. In order to earn the credit, please speak with Mr. Siler or Mrs. Apperley in Guidance prior to starting, as there is paperwork to sign. Not only can you earn credit, but volunteering is a proven way to gain confidence and a greater sense of purpose!

Join Coach Sumner for morning shoot arounds to work on your shooting before tryouts. Girls, boys, JV, and Varsity players are all welcome! Morning shoot arounds will be Tuesday and Friday mornings from 7:30-8:15 beginning Tuesday, October 6 and will run until tryouts begin in November. Questions, see Mr. Sumner in room 215.
SCHOLARSHIPS & GRADUATION INFORMATION
ATTENTION GRADUATES! If you’re planning to attend University you may want to apply for the prestigious LORAN SCHOLARS AWARD. This award is for talented young Canadian based on character, service and leadership potential, who have a minimum academic average of 85%.
YOU MUST NOTIFY GUIDANCE OF YOUR INTENTION TO APPLY BY: FRIDAY, OCT. 2, as we can nominate THREE students under "Sponsored Applications". We need time to review the applications, and help you with the editing process prior to the October 22 deadline. If we have more than three interested graduates, we will hold a selection meeting. If there are only three (or less) graduates who are interested in applying, we will "sponsor" all three.
Completed applications (excluding reference) will be due MONDAY, OCT. 5!
40 one-time awards (for our region) of $2,000, 40 one-time awards (national finalists) of $3,000, 30 awards of up to $100,000 (over four years) + $9,000 stipend, access to funding and internships, and mentorship opportunities. Deadline for completed applications to be submitted to Loran: October 21 for Sponsored Applicants (nominated by NPC), October 28 for Direct Pool Applicants

Lakehead University will be at NPC on November 2 at 1pm to speak with students who would like to know more about their great scholarships, degree programs, and campus. FYI – they will cover some of your moving and travel expenses too! Let Mrs. Apperley know if you’re interested. Please make arrangements with your teacher if you need to miss class.
